Today a couple of colleagues and I were sitting around discussing what we had planned for the holidays. Typically we have a company shutdown between Christmas and New Years. Some mentioned heading up to the mountains for some boarding, one guy had a Lake Tahoe trip lined up, while others stated some much-needed R&R.
I was then asked a question, which I decided should be the topic of my first post: "What has been your most favorite location visited?" It caught me off guard. What the hell does that even mean? In what sense? Most favorite for outdoors activities? Most favorite for unplugging?? I mulled it over, then it hit me. Tokyo, Japan. Back in August of 2012, I had the opportunity to go to Tokyo for about 2 and a half weeks on work-related travel. Other than Singapore, I hadn't ever really been to any Asian countries. Naturally I accepted. My boss (at the time) handed me a stack of papers with instructions and directions in Tokyo, recommended which flights I take, suggested I stay at the Hilton in Shinjuku, and within a week I was off to LAX. Tokyo is like a collab between my top two cities: Los Angeles (or really greater southern california) and New York City. It has the geographical depth of LA along with the high rises of NYC. People tend to mind themselves, but if ever I interacted I found Tokyokko's to be some of the most respectful people. Granted, you may never find out what they really think of you, but who cares if you're only visiting... right?
